Secondary Curriculum – A Pathway to a Piece

A Pathway to a Piece is an eight lesson project for year 10 and year 11 composing students. Inspired by JS Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, the project explores how a composer takes a theme or a chord sequence and develops ideas into a full blown piece. Over 8 lessons, students will compose a two minute piece for two melody instruments and a bass instrument through performing, improvising, planning, refining and notation. This scheme can be adapted to produce a GCSE composition for the major exam boards.

We’re changing

On Wednesday 23 September 2020 Colston Hall changed its name to Bristol Beacon, and this means we’re changing too.

Bristol Plays Music is run by Bristol Music Trust, the charity that also runs the venue formerly known as Colston Hall. These two organisations will soon unite under one name: Bristol Beacon.
