Are you a member of a choir based in the South West? Would you like your choir to be represented on BBC TV and Radio?
Bristol Plays Music are on the search for members of choirs from around the South West region to take part in the BBC Music Day celebrations on 15th June at the new Southmead Hospital, Brunel Building in Bristol.
This year’s theme is ‘The Power of Music’ to heal and support good health and also coincides with the celebrations for BBC Points West’s 60th anniversary.
We are asking for support in putting together a chorus made up of participants from 60 choirs from around the Points West region to perform in the massed choir. In particular we are looking for choirs from the Dorset region.
The choir will be joined by special guest artist YolanDa – BBC Music Day ambassador and 2 time MOBO winner – and the UWE ReVoice Choir a community choir for people affected by aphasia.
Showcasing the theme of the power of music for good health and wellbeing and as a panacea for the soul, the musicians will perform a range of uplifting songs during the afternoon and evening.
Pieces have been selected that reflect the positive theme of the day and we will send you recordings and sheet music beforehand.
Timings for the day are:
|2pm||Arrival at Southmead Hospital Brunel Building|
|2.30pm||Massed Choir Rehearsal led by David Ogden|
|4.00 – 5.00pm||Live performance on BBC Radio
(During this hour)
|5.00 – 6.00pm||Joint Choirs’ rehearsal for TV performance|
|6.30 – 7.00pm||Live performance on BBC Points West|

On Wednesday 23 September 2020 Colston Hall changed its name to Bristol Beacon, and this means we’re changing too.
Bristol Plays Music is run by Bristol Music Trust, the charity that also runs the venue formerly known as Colston Hall. These two organisations will soon unite under one name: Bristol Beacon.
