BBC Music Day 2017

We are pleased to announce our continued involvement with the team behind BBC Music Day.

Broadcast across BBC Radio and BBC Local Radio and BBC Television and this year will take place not just on 15 June but also in the week leading up to BBC Music Day.

BBC Music Day is a UK-wide annual celebration of music that aims to unite communities and generations through their love of music. The theme for this year’s BBC Music Day is the power of music – to bring people together, to enhance feelings of well-being and to create unforgettable memories.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of BBC Points West, singers from 60 choirs from all over the South West will to join together with our very own Bristol Youth Choir on BBC Music Day to form a massed choir in the brand-new Southmead Hospital.

The choir will be joined by special guest artists YolanDa – BBC Music Day ambassador and 2 time MOBO winner – and the UWE ReVoice Choir a community choir for people affected by aphasia.

Showcasing the theme of the power of music for good health and wellbeing and as a panacea for the soul, the musicians will perform a range of uplifting songs during the afternoon and evening, including broadcasts on BBC Radio

We’re changing

On Wednesday 23 September 2020 Colston Hall changed its name to Bristol Beacon, and this means we’re changing too.

Bristol Plays Music is run by Bristol Music Trust, the charity that also runs the venue formerly known as Colston Hall. These two organisations will soon unite under one name: Bristol Beacon.
