We are pleased to announce that applications for this years Guild of Guardians of Bristol Music Awards for Young Musicians are now open for nominations.
This year there are 2 award categories:
City Waits – which provide 2 bursaries of £1000 each to young musicians with exceptional skill and recognises outstanding achievements in music making, reflecting a commitment and involvement in music making in Bristol.
The awardees will be called ‘City Waits’ and will be invited to perform at the awards ceremony and throughout the year on municipal and special occasions.
Special Award – awards of up to £400 to help pay for young musicians to attend specialist training, help towards supporting a special performance opportunity or composition project or help with examination fees. Applications can also be made for grants towards the cost of music tuition through BPM for families on low incomes.
The special awards recognise outstanding potential in music making and involvement in music making in the city. Awards are available to all young musicians who either go to school in Bristol or attend a BPM music centre. Nominations are invited from members of staff responsible for music as a teacher in school , an instrumental teacher or conductor/group leader. All types of music are eligible.

The awards will be presented by the Lord Mayor of Bristol at a ceremony at the Mansion House on Tuesday 17th October
On Wednesday 23 September 2020 Colston Hall changed its name to Bristol Beacon, and this means we’re changing too.
Bristol Plays Music is run by Bristol Music Trust, the charity that also runs the venue formerly known as Colston Hall. These two organisations will soon unite under one name: Bristol Beacon.
