Stop Everything and Sing LIVE!

We’re excited to be bringing singing and the joy of playing live music back to the classrooms for young people across Bristol with 2 brilliant mass singing and playing events for school children in KS1 and KS2.

For children in KS1

Following our wonderful Singing and Signing Christmas event, KS1 children are invited to participate in a live streamed share with uplifting songs about being the best we can be.  We will again be welcoming Paul Whittaker OBE, to help us learn signing to a beautiful song called Life Changes.

We have chosen four songs suitable for KS1 – Try your Best, You Can Do itGood to be Me and Life Changes – with signing for the last 2 songs.

Key Dates

There are teaching sessions on Tuesday 16 & 23 March at 1.30-2.00pm and then 2 x 20 minute weekly online practice sessions (optional), led by Laurie Stewart and the team

KS1Live! Will take place on Tuesday 30 March at 10.00-11.30am, with the live stream at 10.15-11.15am.

There is no cost to participate in KS1Live! and you can join with just one class or all your KS1 classes. Online registration is now open via thKS1-Live! link and once you’ve registered we will send you the rehearsal tracks, lyrics, training videos and links to the rehearsals and live event.

For Children in KS2

We are very excited about this first combined event for singers and players in Bristol schools and we are delighted that our good friend, Naomi Wilkinson from CBBC, will once again be joining us.

The event will follow the pattern of our usual Schools’ Summer concerts, with a rehearsal in May and a live event in June.  We have chosen a selection of songs and orchestral pieces for KS2 Singers and any pupils who would like to participate in the Primary Orchestra (any age, but confident to hold their own instrumental line).

The Primary Orchestra will be playing special arrangements of Over the Rainbow, I am the Earth and One Call Away.

KS2 singers will be working on Power in the Music, One in a Million, Power in Me, I am the Earth and One Call Away.

Key Dates

The online rehearsal will take place on Tuesday 18 May at 1.30-3.00pm.

KS2Live! will take place on Tuesday 29 June at 1.30-3.00pm with the live stream at 1.45-2.45pm.

Orchestral scores will be available for Over the Rainbow from Monday 8 March with the other scores to follow.  We will send details to BPM tutors so they can work on these pieces with the children over the next term.

There is no cost to participate in KS2Live! and you can join with just one class or all your KS2 classes as well as your instrumental players.  Online registration is now open via the KS2-Live! link and once you’ve registered we will send you the rehearsal tracks, lyrics, scores and links to the rehearsal and live event.

We’re changing

On Wednesday 23 September 2020 Colston Hall changed its name to Bristol Beacon, and this means we’re changing too.

Bristol Plays Music is run by Bristol Music Trust, the charity that also runs the venue formerly known as Colston Hall. These two organisations will soon unite under one name: Bristol Beacon.

Click below to find out more about how we’re changing, watch our name announcement, and discover how we want everyone to share in the joy of live music.
