The Bristol Junior String Orchestra is the next step after Starter Strings and String Group for players of violin, viola, cello and double bass playing at approx grade 2+ on their chosen instrument.
The orchestra has a happy, friendly atmosphere within which young people can develop their instrument playing and musicianship whilst also making new friends and have fun!
The BJSO team is led by conductor, secondary music teacher and string specialist Rachel Killick, supported by four experienced string tutors. The morning is split into full orchestral rehearsals as well as sectional time. The orchestra rehearses pieces specially arranged for the needs and abilities of the players with repertoire covering a wide range of styles from traditional classical music through to musical theatre, film and rock & pop arrangements.
They perform in 3 concerts over the course of the academic year in venues across the city in collaboration with the other groups at Music Centre West.
Once a year players will have the opportunity to attend our highly anticipated musical residential weekend at Kilve with the Bristol Wind Band.
