The Bristol Youth Jazz Orchestra is an ensemble run by Bristol Plays Music and has a fantastic reputation for producing young jazz musicians. Working from a beginner level, it’s a jazz band for instrumentalists rehearsing and performing a wide range of repertoire.
It’s a friendly group for beginner and intermediate players to begin playing Jazz, improvising and composing as a group.
The sessions are led by Jazz specialist, Julian Tucker.
The repertoire covered in the sessions ranges from familiar standards to more unusual styles and new arrangements. The group gives opportunities to improve sight-reading, playing by ear, ensemble skills and improvising, where students can try out new things in a relaxed and encouraging environment with informal band performances and sharing events throughout the year.
