Whole Class Ensemble Tuition (WCET) is available to all schools in the city. Pupils in Key Stage 2 are able to access free or subsidised Whole Class Ensemble Tuition. Schools have a wide choice of instruments and projects including steel pans, ukulele, samba, African drumming, stomp, wind band, woodwind, violin, brass, rock band, guitar and recorder.
Schools can book tuition for one year group, where each class receives 10 x 1 hour sessions (which includes 15 minutes set up time for tutors) over two terms, with the option to extend this to twenty sessions over 4 terms for £150 per class, or thirty sessions over the academic year for £300 per class. The class teacher must be present and participate in each session; a planning session is arranged with the tutor and the class teacher at the start of each double term to talk through expectations, class behaviour systems, performance opportunities etc. Projects are delivered by professional music tutors, experienced in working with large groups of children.
All WCET projects are available to book for any year group at a cost of £35 per hour (which includes the 15 minute set up time for tutors), although some projects are better suited to younger/older pupils.
Following Whole Class Ensemble Tuition, progression routes are available through start-up ensembles (for 5-8 pupils) or small group tuition (1-4 pupils) and clubs. Sharing lessons ensures that continuation is affordable to all pupils.

On Wednesday 23 September 2020 Colston Hall changed its name to Bristol Beacon, and this means we’re changing too.
Bristol Plays Music is run by Bristol Music Trust, the charity that also runs the venue formerly known as Colston Hall. These two organisations will soon unite under one name: Bristol Beacon.
Click below to find out more about how we’re changing, watch our name announcement, and discover how we want everyone to share in the joy of live music.
