Music lessons in schools provide an accessible and affordable way for children and young people to learn to play an instrument or to sing.
Bristol Plays Music tutors are experienced and highly qualified music educators who teach in schools across Bristol. Many are professional musicians who regularly perform in bands, orchestras and ensembles.
Our tutors specialise in delivering dynamic and effective sessions across a range of instruments and vocal styles and use the most current training methods and materials to inspire and engage young musicians. Tutors can also help students to take their learning to the next level with music exam support, out of school ensemble sessions and provide access to opportunities for gifted pupils.
Bristol Plays Music works with schools and tutors to accommodate a range of learning requests. Typically, lessons take place once a week during the school day with either individual lessons of 20 or 30 minutes or small group lessons of 20 or 30 minutes.
All music tuition registration is managed through our online registration portal, SpeedAdmin.
We teach in Bristol primary and secondary schools across the city and many schools have signed up to our online booking system. You can check if your school is involved by clicking on the ‘Select Lesson in School’ drop down list on the registration page and then follow the instructions to enrol your child for lessons. If your child’s school is not listed, please check with them how they would like you to sign up for lessons with us.
We also run an Instrument Hire scheme and if you need to hire an instrument details are available here and on the registration portal.

On Wednesday 23 September 2020 Colston Hall changed its name to Bristol Beacon, and this means we’re changing too.
Bristol Plays Music is run by Bristol Music Trust, the charity that also runs the venue formerly known as Colston Hall. These two organisations will soon unite under one name: Bristol Beacon.
Click below to find out more about how we’re changing, watch our name announcement, and discover how we want everyone to share in the joy of live music.
