Choral Centre

Bristol Plays Music’s flagship Choral Centre takes place at Music Centre West in Southmead on Friday evenings and is the home to the Bristol Youth Choir. Led by two exceptional choral leaders David Ogden and Martin Le Poidevin, the choir develops singers from the age of 8.

The Junior Choir covers a mixed repertoire and aims to nurture a love of singing. Lessons build singing confidence with singing games and cover essential skills like reading music. The Senior Boys’ Ensemble explores close harmony, barbershop and other male musical styles. The Senior Girls’ Choir explores repertoire ranging from classical works to light-hearted arrangements of popular songs. Members regularly join together to perform at events across the city, the Bristol Youth Choir also has the prestigious position of being one of Bristol Beacon’s Young Companies in Residence.

We’re changing

On Wednesday 23 September 2020 Colston Hall changed its name to Bristol Beacon, and this means we’re changing too.

Bristol Plays Music is run by Bristol Music Trust, the charity that also runs the venue formerly known as Colston Hall. These two organisations will soon unite under one name: Bristol Beacon.

Click below to find out more about how we’re changing, watch our name announcement, and discover how we want everyone to share in the joy of live music.
